Using it for spelling practice
Put this week's spelling words in and print one for each child. Unscrambling makes kids look at every letter in a word, which is the whole point of spelling practice, and it feels more like a game than writing each word five times.
For first and second graders, keep words to four to six letters and turn on the first-letter hint. Older kids can handle longer words with no hint.
Making it easier or harder
Short words are easier, but a three-letter word can only be mixed a few ways, so very short words sometimes look nearly unscrambled. Words of five letters or more give the best puzzles. Press Shuffle to jumble everything again if one comes out too easy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put phrases in, not just single words?
Yes. Each word in the phrase is scrambled on its own and the spaces stay where they are, so "ice cream" becomes something like "eci maerc".
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Leave "Add an answer key page" on and a second page lists every answer in order. Print just the first page for the class.
How many words fit on one page?
Up to 30. Twelve or fewer print in one large column; more than that switch to two columns.
