Wide ruled or college ruled?
Wide ruled lines are 11/32 inch (about 8.7 mm) apart. Younger students and people with larger handwriting find them easier. College ruled lines are 9/32 inch (about 7.1 mm) apart, which fits more on a page and suits middle school, high school and adults. Narrow ruled, at 1/4 inch, is for small handwriting and dense notes.
How Cornell notes work
Take notes in the big right-hand column during class. Afterwards, write questions and key words in the left column that the notes answer. At the bottom, sum the whole page up in two or three sentences.
To study, cover the notes column and answer the questions in the left column from memory. It turns a page of notes into a ready-made quiz.
